This beautiful etched carnelian bead dates to the pre-Bactrian period, earlier than 1500 BCE, and was found in the Peshawar region of present-day Pakistan. Handcrafted using ancient etching techniques that permanently altered the surface of the stone, the bead displays subtle patterning that reflects both technical skill and symbolic intent. Etched carnelians from this early period are especially scarce, as they predate the rise of Bactrian influence in the region. Remarkably well preserved for its age, this bead remains in excellent condition and is presented strung on an adjustable black nylon cord, ready for display or wear as a genuine artifact of deep antiquity.
